Visio is an application that lets users map processes using various graphical forms. Start with a basic diagram to express common ideas, such as depicting a plan, proposing, or describing a sequence of steps in a process. Creating first-class diagrams with commonly used diagram types and rich shape sets is simple and easy.
UW Office 365 accounts have access to core functionalities of Visio for the web, allowing any UW Office 365 account to create, edit, and share professional diagrams in a browser. It also integrates with various Microsoft solutions, including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business, for a collaborative diagramming experience.
If you need more functionality than what is offered in Visio for the web, consider purchasing the Visio Plan 2 license for creating professional business and IT diagrams that meet industry standards and can be connected to data. A Visio Plan 2 License is the only way for UW faculty and staff to obtain the Visio desktop app (not available for macOS).
This chart compares some critical features between Visio for the web (aka Visio in Microsoft 365), Visio Plan 1, and Visio Plan 2. Note that UW does not offer Visio Plan 1.
Visio Plan 2 licenses are offered to UW departments annually from June 1 to May 31 in alignment with our Microsoft contract and include no service or support for the product itself. It only consists of the cost of contract management, automatic annual renewal, and supplying a self-service assignment mechanism for licensing via UW Groups.
The rate for MS Visio Plan 2 is $35 annually. This cost is not prorated when purchased midway through the contract year.
In preparation for UW Finance Transformation (UWFT), we stopped processing orders for subscription products offered in the UWare catalog from May 1, 2023, through July 2023. As of August 2023, we are able to process orders, but some billing may still be delayed.
If you try to place an order and see the message “You are not autorized”, we have had to temporarily disable orders; please check back again in a few days.
Please view this page for more information about the cancellation deadline or to submit a cancellation request form.
A notice will be posted in the UWare Catalog when we can process orders for new software licenses.
