A former Fortune 500 executive with decades of experience in IT operations, cloud platforms, data and visualization technologies has been selected as UW-IT’s new Associate Vice President for the Infrastructure division and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Bin Guo, whose first day was Aug. 28, received a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science and technology from Tsinghua University in China, which is one of the top universities in the world.
She also has decades of experience building and leading cross-functional, multi-cultural and distributed teams for SLB (p.k.a. Schlumberger), which is a Fortune 500 global corporation that operates across multiple continents.
“We were fortunate to have a strong pool of finalists and I am thankful to everyone who participated in the selection process,” said Andreas Bohman, Vice President for UW Information Technology and CIO. “I especially appreciate the work from the recruiting firm Next Generation Partners, LLC and the search committee, made up of leaders across the University.”
Search committee members were impressed by Guo’s breadth and scope of experience — overseeing a major company’s digital transformation and growing major digital technology organizations. She laid strategic roadmaps to deliver foundational and mission-critical technologies and business solutions.
Her impressive record of accomplishment leading the growth of technology organizations and strategies in the private sector will bring tremendous value to the University and be well suited to achieving the goals of our organization and partners, Bohman said.
“Bin will bring new perspectives to the important services and capabilities provided by the Infrastructure division,” he said. “Her professional experience has a global reach and her leadership values in diversity, equity and inclusion will contribute positively to these areas in UW-IT and help us facilitate and promote diversity in our technical and thought leadership.”
In her role in UW-IT, Bin will oversee the teams within the Infrastructure division that support IT operations across the UW, wired and wireless network connectivity, telecommunications, infrastructure tools and servers, architectural design and engineering, and regional networks.
“I am confident that Bin will provide visionary leadership in developing and implementing innovative technology solutions and strategies that support the University’s mission and vision,” Bohman said.
Bohman also thanked Mary Mulvihill’s leadership in serving as the interim AVP since December, leading the Infrastructure team through the organizational strategy work, and successful go-live for UWFT UW Connect Finance.
Mulvihill was instrumental in advancing strategic work in the Infrastructure division, while attending to a myriad of technological initiatives, he said.
