Overview
Microsoft is retiring their enterprise video platform Stream (Classic) and replacing it with Stream (on SharePoint).
To avoid data loss, UW-IT will automatically migrate existing Stream (Classic) videos to Stream (on SharePoint) on April 9, 2024.
Video migration
UW-IT will automatically migrate all existing Stream (Classic) videos to Stream (on SharePoint) using Microsoft’s migration tool on April 9, 2024.
After videos are migrated, they will be found in the following locations:
Microsoft 365 Groups -> A folder called “Stream Migrated Videos” is created in the root document library (aka “Files” tab). Each channel in the group becomes a folder under the “Stream Migrated Videos” folder.
User (My Content) -> A folder called “Stream Migrated Videos” is created in the user’s OneDrive for Business.
Companywide-wide channel -> A folder will be created in a SharePoint Online site managed by UW-IT. Email help@uw.edu with the subject: “Microsoft Stream (Classic) to Stream (on SharePoint) Migration Project” to gain access to your company-wide channel video that has been migrated.
Existing video links (URLs)
According to Microsoft, existing links (URLs) to Stream (Classic) videos will continue to work after videos are migrated until February 15, 2025. On that date, existing links will stop working and you will have to generate new links to videos in Stream (on SharePoint).
Communication
Impacted users and Microsoft 365 Groups will receive an email about the Stream (Classic) to Stream (on SharePoint) video migration and where to find the migrated videos.
