Stay in Touch

Last updated: August 31, 2022

All customers of Managed Workstation are strongly encouraged to join the announcement mailing list so you receive timely updates on changes. Below is a list of the different ways you can stay in contact with any changes or announcements in Managed Workstation.

MWS Newsletter

MWS has a Newsletter page with our most current announcements and notifications.

MWS Mailing Lists

  • mws-users: all active Managed Workstation clients are automatically subscribed to this mail list, which is used to send critical alerts and other high-priority communications.

  • mws-announce: anyone can subscribe to this list, which is a low-volume source of notices about service interruptions, notable design changes, and the semi-annual newsletter. To subscribe:
    • Click on the link above
    • Click on the “Membership” tab
    • In the “Add Members” textbox enter your netid and click the “Do it” button.
    • You will automatically be added to the mws-announce within 24 hours.

  • mws-discuss: A two-way communication channel to encourage discussion of Managed Workstation services: You and the service team can send to it. This enables interaction about the service so we can hear from each other, surfacing business needs, exposing recurring problems we have missed, and providing a way to ask questions about the service. This isn’t intended as a way to make requests. To subscribe:
    • Click on the link above
    • Click “Log in” button
    • After logging in, click “Subscribe”. If you do not see a “Subscribe” option, then you probably are already a member of the list (if you see a “Unsubscribe or edit options” button, then you are already a member).
    • You will automatically be added to the mws-discuss within 24 hours.

myIT allows us another way to reach our customers. If you are assigned as “managed by” or “primary user” of a computer, or if you are a department support role in myIT, then you will be notified using the information we have in myIT.

  • technical contact:  user-editable field for each computer; this UW NetID will receive early notice of upcoming changes and a list of affected computers for which they are the technical contacts.  Edited at the myIT portal; get more information on the view and change computer information page.
  • primary user:  user-editable field for each computer; this UW NetID will receive notice of upcoming changes that will affect that computer. Edited at the myIT portal; get more information on the view and change computer information page.
