Focused Inbox

On This Page

Overview

Focused Inbox separates your inbox into two tabs—”Focused” and “Other”. Your most important emails are on the Focused tab while the rest remain easily accessible – but out of the way – on the Other tab.

Focused Inbox is Microsoft’s long-term replacement for Clutter. For more information, see this post from the Microsoft Outlook Blog. From the blog post:

“We have received feedback from our customers and in response we are going to postpone the retirement of Clutter at this time.

Focused Inbox is where we will continue focusing our development efforts and we encourage you to transition your users for the best experience. Customers can continue to use Clutter, but we will not be investing in it further.”

Focused Inbox learns from your actions on emails

Focused Inbox learns from your actions on emails to determine the emails you are likely to ignore. You must train Focused Inbox to know what is important to you and what is not important to you by moving emails between “Focused” and “Other”.

Why did Clutter stop working for me?

Microsoft is phasing out Clutter. As a result, Clutter functionality is unpredictable and Clutter is occasionally turned off or stops working. Unfortunately, Microsoft has eliminated the ability to turn Clutter back on once it stops working. Focused Inbox is the eventual replacement for Clutter and should be used instead, if Clutter has stopped working for you.
