Updates for UW Zoom HIPAA users

Last updated: August 16, 2022

As of 9:00 PM on Monday, October 25, 2021, you will sign in to UW Zoom by using washington.zoom.us instead of uw-phi.zoom.us.

Your meetings hosted at washington.zoom.us will meet HIPAA privacy standards and regulations, so you can safely share protected health information via washington.zoom.us. Your existing meetings with uw-phi.zoom.us links will continue to work.

What do I need to do?
The change is fairly straightforward on your end. As of 9:00 PM on Monday, October 25, you will simply sign into a new URL.

When signing into:

  • Zoom software: You will continue to use the Single Sign On (SSO) method. Instead of using the uw-phi company domain, you will enter washington in the company domain field.
    • If you are using a UW-provided computer, your computer administrator may update the Zoom software settings for you. Contact your departmental IT support for more information.
  • UW Zoom web portal: Visit washington.zoom.us.
    • The first time you sign in to washington.zoom.us after 9:00PM on October 25, we recommend that you review your Zoom profile and meeting settings, as some of these may have changed.
    • If you attempt to sign in at uw-phi.zoom.us you will be redirected to washington.zoom.us.
  • Zoom apps: If you have been using the Microsoft Teams Zoom app or the Zoom Outlook add-in with the HIPAA-compliant version of UW Zoom, the first time you want to use UW Zoom after 9:00PM on October 25, you will need to sign out of the app and then sign in with the new URL to continue using the app. When you sign in, you will need to change the company domain from uw-phi to washington.
