Temporary UW NetID Support Roles and Responsibilities

New changes are coming to the “University of Washington” Wi-Fi network. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our wireless network and provide you with a better online experience, we will implement changes to the “University of Washington” wireless networks to provide easier guest access to non-UW patrons and onboarding assistance for eduroam.

This page identifies the different roles/groups that participate in supporting or assigning a temporary UW NetID for wireless access and their responsibilities.

Temporary UW NetID User
The individual or individuals using the temporary UW NetID to access the wireless networks.

  • The temporary UW NetID user is responsible for keeping their computer up-to-date and virus-free.
Temporary UW NetID Requestor
The individual who fills out the temporary UW NetID form and distributes the temporary UW NetID to the person(s) using the temporary UW NetID.

  • The temporary UW NetID requestor is responsible for supporting temporary UW NetID users who have lost their temporary UW NetID or password.
  • The temporary UW NetID requestor has the option of choosing to support temporary UW NetID users with computer issues such as updating the computer. This is at their discretion and is not a requirement.
Contact Person
The individual authorizing the creation of the temporary UW NetID (often times this is the assignor).

  • The contact person has the option of choosing to support temporary UW NetID users with computer issues such as updating the computer. This is at their discretion and is not a requirement.
Customer Support
UW Information Technology Customer Services provides support for the temporary UW NetID service.

  • UW Information Technology Customer Services is responsible for supporting questions assignors have when using the temporary UW NetID service.
  • UW Information Technology Customer Services is responsible for supporting any questions not addressed on this page.
