Overview

*10/19/19 – Security firm Comparitech discovered a data breach at Adobe that exposed account names and product subscriptions for 7.5 million Adobe users. While passwords don’t appear to have been compromised, there is a risk of targeted phishing attacks in the coming months. For more information please see:

Adobe Creative Cloud is a subscription-based software service that gives users access to a collection of software developed by Adobe for graphic design, video editing, web development, photography, and cloud services. Applications can be ordered individually or as a suite (Creative Cloud). Note: Due to the terms of our contract, beginning July 2019 individual applications, with the exception of Acrobat Pro DC, will no longer be available through the UWare store. Please contact CDWG for purchasing individual titles.

The Creative Cloud suite (all-apps) includes most of these applications as well as some not available for individual licensing, such as:

  • Experience Design
  • Prelude
  • SpeedGrade
  • Audition
  • Muse
  • Animate
  • InCopy
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Premiere Pro
  • Acrobat Pro
  • InDesign
  • After Effects
  • Dreamweaver
  • and many more

Program Details

Adobe Creative Cloud applications are available as an annual subscription, with the license period running from July 14 through July 13 of the following year.

NOTE 6/3/19:

  • Due to the terms of our contract, beginning July 2019 Adobe products will no longer be prorated.
  • UW-IT cannot refund the cost of the Adobe license subscription.

Applications are available as a suite assigned to either a named user or a specific device with discrete pricing for each category.

Named user licenses are assigned to an individual (not a shared NetID) and are only available to that user, may only be installed on two devices.

  • Named user licenses will not be assigned to a shared UW NetID. Adobe licensing policy prohibits it.
  • Named user will need to log into Adobe applications to utilize their license.

Shared Device licenses (SDL) are now only available for a lab or other shared computer environment and may be installed only on a single device where the application(s) is/are available to all users of that device. If you need Adobe SDL, you will have to become a “profile administrator” for your set of devices and you will create installation packages for your group in the Adobe Admin Console. UW IT software licensing group will work with you on provisioning.

Send an email with the subject “Adobe Shared Device License Admin request” to help@uw.edu. UW IT software licensing team will contact you with all the necessary details about the Adobe Enterprise admin console.

note: Adobe “Lightroom” does not work in the Shared Device License.  Adobe “Lightroom Classic” does.

  • Once activated, the shared device license cannot be used on a different computer. Send an email with the subject “Adobe Device license re-assign” to help@uw.edu. UW IT can help to re-assign the license to a different device.
  • All devices with Adobe SDL that you have purchased and activated must appear in your Adobe Admin Console profile.
  • Shared Device licenses are NOT available for individual applications.

Adobe Shared Device License – user experience.

  • A user with an existing Adobe named user license purchased via UW IT should use an “Enterprise ID” option to sign-in on the device with Adobe Shared Device License.
  • If you do not have Adobe “named user” license purchased via UW IT, you must sign in with “Adobe ID”. A free Adobe ID is issued by Adobe and is not related to the University of Washington. It is your personal account. Do NOT use UW NetID and/or UW email address to create your personal Adobe ID.  Adobe ID can be self-provisioned  .

If you are looking for the non-subscription (perpetual) license of Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can purchase it from CDW-G through UW E-Procurement / Ariba.  Use Item # 5630811.

Perpetual licenses for other products are also available there.
