Technology Recharge Fee

The Technology Recharge Fee (TRF) was established in 2010 to provide a sustainable long-term funding model for critical information technology services at the UW. The fee is a per capita rate paid by all UW academic and administrative units to supplement existing central funds, which pay for the basic services. Please, see TRF Overview for more details.

Technology Recharge Fee Rates for FY 2026

The FY 2026 Technology Recharge Fee is effective July 1, 2025, with a 3 percent increase in rates from the previous fiscal year:

  • $74.47 per month per capita for all academic and administrative units (the current rate is $72.30)
  •  $66.67 per month per capita for the UW Medical Centers (the current rate is $64.73)

Technology Fee Review and Rate Setting Process

The Information & Technology Executive Committee is charged by UW to conduct an annual review of the TRF level and methodology. The Provost approved the Committee’s recommendation to implement the new rates, which address increases in the costs of enterprise software licenses.
