Data classification

Understanding what data you have and what kind of risk is associated with them is essential to effectively using those data and protecting them.

Data classification is the process of categorizing and labeling data based on a data classification scheme. In practice, classifications are mapped to specific controls that enable effective data protection and risk management.

The Office of Information Security is currently updating the UW’s data classification scheme and processes. This effort will involve UW-IT Security and Privacy and Data Governance boards. Check out our resources for more details!
