UW Students Ramp Up Computational Research
More than 90 students in 20 departments—part of the new UW High Performance Computing Club—use the UW’s shared high performance computing cluster (Hyak) to advance their research. The club provides training and access to computing nodes, purchased with Student Technology Fee Committee funds. UW-IT manages Hyak, and ordered and readied the equipment for the club’s use. Examples of research include a Biology PhD student exploring phylogenetics among avian systems, and a Chemical Engineering PhD student examining protein adsorption and enzyme stability. Go to Getting Started on Hyak to request an account; email firstname.lastname@example.org to get on the mailing list.
