UW Zoom Video Conferencing

Service Description

Zoom unifies cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings, group messaging, and a software-defined conference room solution into one easy-to-use platform. Zoom offers high quality video, audio, and wireless screen-sharing across Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, iOS, Android, Blackberry, Zoom Rooms, and H.323/SIP room systems. Founded in 2011, Zoom's mission is to make video and web conferencing frictionless.

Zoom makes it easy for UW faculty, staff, and students to:

  • participate in group video chat during online class sessions
  • host virtual office hours
  • collaborate remotely on research
  • share screens and host real-time video conversations
  • host live web broadcasts to thousands of people worldwide
  • record to the cloud or computer for easy sharing

Operating system agnostic
Zoom software offers the same user experience across Mac, Windows, and Linux operating systems.

Phone conference line included
Included with your Zoom Pro account is a phone conference line. Participants of your web conference can simply dial a phone number and code to enter your meeting over the phone. This is helpful when internet access is not available for some of your participants.

HIPAA- and FERPA- Compliance
UW-IT and Zoom have a Business Associates Agreement (BAA) to protect the security and privacy or Protected Health Information in HIPAA UW Zoom Accounts. UW-IT's contract with Zoom also offers FERPA compliance in both Standard and HIPAA UW Zoom Accounts.

Eligibility

Zoom host accounts are available to UW Faculty, Staff, and Students with a valid UW NetID.

Zoom Meeting Hosts
Meeting hosts must be a UW NetID user. One paid host account is required to host a meeting. Using shared NetIDs is possible, but not recommended. A host account can only host one meeting at a time. Using a NetID that is shared by several people may cause conflicts of meeting times, resulting in a meeting interruption.

Zoom Meeting Participants
Meeting participants don't need a UW NetID, they simply click the meeting URL to join the meeting. No login required.
