UW units need to ensure that information technology (IT) they develop, buy and use to make UW resources available is usable by those with disabilities, as required by Accessibility Policy #188. Adopted in August by the Washington State Office of the Chief Information Officer, it covers websites, web-based applications, e-documents, multimedia and more. In late November, UW-IT’s Accessible Technology Director Sheryl Burgstahler, who is leading Policy 188 implementation, met with 40 state public postsecondary IT and disability personnel to coordinate efforts.
