MyUW benefits from move to secure, scalable cloud-based application delivery system

You may not notice any changes to MyUW, your personal portal to the University of Washington. But its recent move to a highly efficient cloud-based software automation system means you can expect greater reliability and performance from MyUW, and cost-savings for the University too.

With this move, MyUW can more efficiently scale up to meet high demand periods, such as during open registration and at the beginning of the quarter, ensuring you have access to important information and resources — whether its students accessing tuition balances or instructors reviewing their course details.

That’s because the new Managed Container Infrastructure system that now hosts MyUW automates building, testing, and the release of applications. It also hosts these applications on cloud virtual servers to scale dynamically and precisely to meet user demand. The system, developed by UW Information Technology using the Google Cloud Platform, uses containerization, which speeds up software releases and reduces the costs associated with infrastructure and operating expenses.

Now, MyUW can automatically scale up to use more server power in high-usage periods and scale down during slower times.

Up next to migrate to this secure, scalable cloud-based software automation system are Notify.UW, Panopto Scheduler, Scout, Mobile.UW and others.
