lolo stores more than a petabyte of data for UW researchers

Data storage with gears suggesting innovation

More than a petabyte of research-critical data is protected on the lolo Archive, a centrally managed data archiving and file-sharing storage service that provides long-term safekeeping and fast, convenient retrieval. A petabyte of data storage can hold all the letters and words published, bound and shelved in 1,000 libraries, each the size of the UW Libraries. lolo is part of a scientific computing infrastructure operated by UW-IT, which includes lolo; Hyak, the shared cluster supercomputer; a research network to support fast data transfers; and consultation on high performance computing (including cloud computing) for research.
