Learn how to keep using Visio, Project after May 31

Visio and Project desktop applications for faculty, staff, and UW-owned systems will not be included in the UW’s 2021 contract renewal with Microsoft, but you can still purchase a separate cloud subscription.

That means if you are currently using these apps, your department, unit or organization will need to purchase subscription licenses for them so you can continue to use Visio and Project after May 31, 2021. You’ll still need to ensure you remove the versions listed below. Subscription licenses have their own desktop applications for you to install.

What needs to be removed

Anyone with the following desktop applications installed on their computers will need to remove them by May 31:

  • Visio 2019
  • Visio 2016
  • Visio 2013
  • Project 2019
  • Project 2016
  • Project 2013, and any earlier versions.

Any non-licensed use of the desktop applications after May 31 will be in violation of the UW’s Microsoft licensing contract. Please note that if any audit is conducted, and unlicensed use is found, a department may be liable for fines and audit costs.
