Migrate UW Windows Live ( email messages to

When you migrate email messages from a UW Windows Live ( account to an account, you can view the email messages from the UW Windows Live ( account from within the account. The UW Windows Live ( account messages are located in a folder named after the email address in the Folders pane.

Migrate UW Windows Live ( messages to an account

  1. Click here to sign in to with the account you’ve created.  If you need to create a new account, click here.
  2. On the right side of the navigation bar at the top of the page, click the gear icon (Quick settings), then click View all Outlook settings at the bottom of the the list, then click Sync email.
  3. Under Add a connected account, click Other email accounts.
  4. Enter a Display name, e.g. your First and Last name.
  5. Enter your UW Windows Live ( email address, UW Windows Live ( account password*, check the box next to Manually configure account settings (POP, IMAP or Send Only account), and click OK.
    • *This could be different than your UW NetID password.  If you are unable to login and need to change your UW Windows Live ( account password, first review Microsoft’s password requirements here, then click here, login with your UW NetID and UW NetID password, and click Change UW Windows Live Password at the bottom of the page to update your password.  It may take up to 15 minutes for your new password to take effect.
  6. On the next screen that says Choose your connection type, leave the default setting selected (IMAP/SMTP connection settings) and click OK.
  7. On the next screen that says New IMAP connection, under the heading Account information, under Username, enter your email address and under Password, enter your UW Windows Live ( account password.
  8. Under You can choose where the imported email will be stored, leave the default setting selected (Create a new folder for imported email, with subfolders like in the account you connect).
  9. Under the heading Server information, under Incoming (IMAP) server, enter, under Incoming server port enter 993, under Authentication select Basic, under Encryption select SSL, then select Send email using’s server (recipient may see your address), and click OK.
  10. You will now see a message that says Your account is now connected.  We are importing your email.  This can take a while.  Click OK.
  11. To change your default From email address (the default email address that new email messages will be sent from), click Change your From address then from the dropdown menu listed next to From address, select your email address.
  12. To return to the Inbox, click the blue “back arrow” next to Options in the upper left-corner of the page.
  13. Click the + New button to compose a new email, and if you’d like to confirm the From email address, click the three dots (ellipsis) button on the new email compose options bar, then click Show From.  You should see your email address listed as the From email address.  If you don’t, close your browser and log back in to your account.
  14. To view your migrated UW Windows Live ( messages, click the folder on the left side of the page in the Folders pane.
