Manually Deactivate UW Deskmail Email, UW Gmail & G Suite

Some UW email services, including UW Deskmail and UW Gmail (with G Suite), may be manually deactivated by the account holder.

Exchange Online, Office 365, and Windows Live can only be deactivated via automated expiration processes.

To deactivate UW Deskmail service

  1. Check for old email

Use the Web Alpine tool to check for email in your account: http://alpine.washington.edu

Tip: To see any stored content, to the right/left of UW Email Folders, click View.

  1. Migrate mail

To migrate old email from Deskmail to another email service review the following information. If you do not need to migrate any email, skip to step 3

  • Current UW Faculty, Staff, Students, and Emeritus Faculty may migrate email to either UW Exchange Online or UW Gmail
  1. Deactivate Deskmail service

Once you have determined that you do not need your old email, or have successfully migrated it to your current mailbox, deactivate Deskmail mailbox by doing the following:

  1. Check for email

Access your UW Gmail mailbox to check for email in your account: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox

  1. Migrate mail

To migrate email from UW Gmail to another email service review the following information. If you do not need to migrate any email, skip to step 3

  1. Deactivate UW Gmail service

Once you have determined that you do not need your email, or have successfully migrated it to your current mailbox, deactivate UW Gmail and G Suite account by doing the following:
