    As online scams continue to become more sophisticated, brush up on your computing security awareness year round, not only during cybersecurity month in October. The UW Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is hosting a series of free one-hour monthly briefings to share information, provide education and stimulate conversation on a range of information security and privacy topics. See all the cybersecurity October events, as well as the monthly briefings through 2017, on the CISO website.

  • Canvas template helps instructors organize—and students find—course materials

    When instructors open Canvas, the UW’s learning management system, they will discover a new resource: a template to guide course creation. The template, designed by UW-IT and tested by UW instructors, is based on research with UW students, who reported difficulty navigating course material in Canvas. Read more about the Canvas course template and watch a three-minute video highlighting the key features.

  • Technology Expo for UW students: Sept. 30

    Find out about all the free technology, discounts and services available to you as a UW student at the Technology Expo on Friday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Odegaard Undergraduate Library, first floor, as part of UW Dawg Daze schedule of events (search for “technology”). Visit booths from UW units, as well as Apple, Microsoft, Tableau and more. Enter the student drawing for a chance to win great prizes, and come early for other free gifts while supplies last. Meet the Library staff to learn about resources and services available there.

  • Share your data visualizations via the new UW Tableau Public Server

    Now you can share your data visualization dashboards with colleagues anywhere in the world, with the new UW Tableau Public Server. Hosted by UW-IT, the server keeps your data safe and secure; viewers interact with your dashboard but do not download it or the data behind it, and a UW NetID is not required for access. Now it is easy to share UW information, research data and analyses with peers, other institutions and the media. Both faculty and staff can use the UW Tableau Public Server. Learn more.

    It's election season and the UW Libraries' Election 2016 guide has everything you need to know. Follow the links to register to vote (online and mail-in deadlines are October 10; in-person is October 31), research the issues and attend a debate watching party (September 26; October 4, 9 and 19).
