Report Update: Class List By Curriculum Course Section (removed Pending Major)

The Report Prioritization Group released an update to the Class List By Curriculum Course Section report. This post summarizes those changes.

Change Summary:

  • Temporarily removed Pending Major Column:

    • In early August 2019 we released an update to the report to add a student’s Pending Major as a column in the report.
    • The initial response to this release was positive, but we recently learned that the update was causing the report to fail to run when users selected to view multiple quarters of data.
    • Removing the column resolved the bug, but we are now investigating a resolution for how we can provide this data.

Please Provide Feedback:

  • The challenge with providing this data in the Class List report is that “Pending Major” is an attribute of a student at the current point in time. However, this report allows users to view data across time. This time dimension is what caused the report to fail.
  • If you are a user who finds value in the Pending Major data, can you please write us to share how you use it in your work? We especially want to know:
    • Do you need to know a student’s historical pending majors?
    • Or, are you mostly interested in a list of students for the current quarter that are in your Department’s classes and have a pending major that you advise?
    • What do you do with this data?
  • To provide feedback please write help@uw.edu with “RPG: Class List Report Pending Major Feedback” in the subject line

Questions?

This report references the term Pending Major. If you have questions about the meaning of this or any other term, please explore the link above or find more detail in the Knowledge Navigator

New Report Release: Immunization Report

The Report Prioritization Group is excited to announce the release of the new Immunization Report.

Summary:

We are offering a new reporting tool on the BI portal that provides information about students and their immunization status. The report is intended to be used by Hall Health and Health Sciences Immunization Program (HSIP) to identify students who have or have not fulfilled their immunization requirements.

Questions?

To run the Immunization Report or any report on the BI Portal, you will need permission to access data in the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). If you do not already have EDW access, follow this link to the enterprise data site to find your authorizer and request access.

As always, if you have any questions or feedback about the report please email help@uw.edu and include “RPG: Immunization Report” in your subject line.

RPG: Student Degree Information (Departmental GPA)

The Report Prioritization Group released an update to the Student Degree Information report. This post summarizes those changes.

Change Summary:

  • Departmental GPA Columns Added:

    • 3 columns were added to the report to display a student’s GPA for all classes taken within the department that administers the student’s major(s). For more detail on the calculation, please see the Departmental GPA definition in Knowledge Navigator.
    • Users can sort these columns in the report to rank order students by GPA. This data was requested by departmental advisers to be used as a reference when conferring department awards based on GPA.
    • The columns are labeled [First, Second, Third] Major Dept GPA, and are included in the default columns to display.
  • Academic Year Column Added:

    • The Academic Year column was added so that users no longer have to infer the academic year from the filter selection. The Academic Year is now an explicit data element in the report.
  • Enhancement to “Degree, Major or Minor” Filter Order:

    • Previously, there was not a logical ordering of the options displayed in this filter dropdown
    • Now the options in the dropdown are grouped by Major, Minor, and Degree to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

Questions?

This report references two GPA calculations: Cumulative GPA and Departmental GPA. If you have questions about the meaning of these concepts and how they differ from Major GPA, please explore the links above or find more detail in the Knowledge Navigator.

As always, if you have any questions, please write help@uw.edu and put “RPG: Student Degree Information” in the subject line.

Report Update: Undergraduates Eligible to Register – Removed Applied to Graduate Filter

The Report Prioritization Group released an update to the Undergraduates Eligible to Register. This post summarizes those changes.

Change Summary:

  • Based on user feedback we have removed the Applied to Graduate (Y/N) Filter, and the applied to graduate column from the Undergraduates Eligible to Register report.

More Detail:

  • We received feedback from several users that the Y/N field was returning unexpected results. We were told the the Y or N was clear, but what wasn’t clear was the logic used to derive the flag.
  • We decided to replace the Y/N flag with the actual Year and Quarter (e.g. Autumn 2020) when the student has applied to graduate. This will provide more detail for users than the simple Y/N field did.
  • The Student Applied to Graduate field and Year Quarter will be added in the next release of updates to the report. We are currently working on implementing these changes.
  • In the next release, we will also include several more enhancements to the report, including:
